Dean: Brett Coker
Check-in: July 19 @ 6:00pm
Parent Pick-up: July 24 @ 3:00pm
The week will focus on team building and discipleship with age appropriate off-site adventures. Campers will be staying in the updated, yet rustic Outpost area of the property where they will be sleeping in tents that will be provided. Campers will need to bring their own sleeping bag.
The theme “Morph” is based on the Greek word metamorphoō. We will focus on being challenged & transformed by being with Christ. We will study the events of the apostle Peter’s life when he encountered Jesus and was challenged, and then transformed.
About the Dean
Where are you involved at church?
I am currently involved at two churches in Memphis, TN. At East Win Christian Church, I have been a member, volunteer in the student ministries, and a member of the worship team for several years. I have also just begun getting involved at Engage Church in Memphis, a younger multi-ethnic Church plant with a lovely ministerial staff that is made up of some of my close friends.
What is your favorite Bible verse?
This is a hard question for me to answer, so I’ll go back to the basics. Ephesians 3:12, “In Him (Jesus) and through faith in Him (Jesus), we may approach God with freedom and confidence.” That verse changed my life. I grew up in a place where I was blessed to realize that God exists. After that, it was about discovering the incredible relationship message between God and man that makes our Christian Gospel so unique and powerful. Every time I read Ephesians 3, I still get pumped at how incredible the saving sacrifice of Jesus is.
What does camp ministry mean to you?
Camp ministry is how God kept my faith in the light at very dark times in my life. I do believe a slogan that my first Christian Camp from growing up used, that “camp is the gospel at play”. I think it is a powerful bridge for God to meet people when He knows they need something other than home and/or their local church at the moment. I believe it’s God’s greatest para-church tool, but I admit I am a little biased. It’s like this canvas, where God uses his nature and people’s creativity to make art that changes lives.
What is your favorite camp memory?
One night, at a high school camp, we were out at this large campfire amphitheater in the woods, and a man named Josh Coffee related the entire gospel to The Lion King. The Lion King was my all-time favorite childhood movie, and he reenacted animal noises and gestures as he preached. It was a whole show, and I was so into it. I was praising God that night, he’s my Mufasa.
What is your favorite dessert?
I’m admittedly a massive foodie, so I love a dessert and coffee after I eat. I honestly think cobbler is my favorite dessert if I have a sweet tooth prepared in that moment. It’s so good to cook if you’re out camping. I will admit, Woodland Lakes got me hooked on dirt pudding last summer, which became a real obsession and bad for my waistline.
