5 Things I Wish You Knew About God

Grades: Entering 2nd-4th

Many people, including kids, in our world today have grand misconceptions about God. They may have a very small view of God and how powerful He actually is. They may think that God wants them to be perfect and there’s no room for error in the family of Jesus. They may think a relationship with God is just doing what you are told and making sure you don’t break any rules. We want to teach kids that God isn't like that at all; that in fact, he is the exact opposite!

Each time we break into our Large and small group families, we will be tackling these 5 things that I wish every kid knew about God!

  •  GOD IS BIGGER THAN ANYTHING!

  • JESUS IS MY KING!

  • GOD DOESN’T NEED YOU TO BE PERFECT

  • I WANT JESUS MORE THAN ANYTHING!

  • WE TALK TO GOD. WE DO THINGS WITH GOD. WE PRAISE GOD. WE LOOK FOR GOD.

What does camp ministry mean to you?

Camp ministry is so important to me because it's a place where kids and students can experience something out of the ordinary.  It allows designated time for kids to develop their faith in a way that doesn't happen very often.  Big life decisions undoubtedly happen for kids and students while they are at camp.  Campers realize how to deepen their faith or better develop spiritual disciplines.   Many life-altering decisions have been made at camp.  The decision to lead a life of purity or the decision to become a follower of Jesus for the very first time, or even the decision to enter into vocational ministry.  These decisions happen while at camp. Many friendships are often strengthened while attending a week of camp.  Those shared experiences will leave an impression on the hearts of the kids who attend and they are not replaceable.  Camp also is a place where kids and students learn the gospel truth (or at least they should be) and they are also challenged to not only live it out when they leave but to share it with others who were not able to be there.  There are so many advantages to camp ministry.  I love it!

What is your favorite camp memory?

I was baptized at camp when I was 13 years old by my Dad.  I remember standing in the lake with fish swimming around my feet waiting for my turn to step up to my Dad who prayed over me and baptized me.  It was a wonderful feeling and it's an experience that I will never ever forget.
